The Henge - Level for Team Fortress 2
The Henge - Level for Team Fortress 2
The task for this project was to design a custom King of the Hill (KOTH) level for Team Fortress 2, focusing on creating a unique layout while maintaining fair, competitive gameplay. The result was “The Henge”, a symmetrical map built around an unusual A-shaped structure, designed to keep matches dynamic and encourage multiple strategies.
The map was designed to support all TF2 classes by offering varied routes such as fast direct paths, an underground flanking option, and balcony positions for long-range play, while carefully controlling choke points and sightlines around the central capture point. Visual and environmental design also followed TF2’s team readability standards, using contrasting Red/Blue themes and clear affordances to help navigation.
To validate the design, I conducted playtesting and gathered feedback through surveys. Results showed that players found the map interesting and balanced, with most confusion occurring in the underground area, which I improved through stronger visual guidance such as textures and colour-coded exit signage. After iterating on layout and navigation changes, follow-up testing confirmed that teams were consistently balanced and matches remained competitive.
