Project Overview - Social System Design (Final Fantasy XIV)
Project Overview - Social System Design (Final Fantasy XIV)
The task for this project was to design a new core gameplay system for an existing game. I chose Final Fantasy XIV, one of the most popular MMORPGs, and created a proposal for a new in-game social system.
My proposed system is an in-game social network focused on sharing gameplay screenshots with other players, a feature that does not currently exist in the game. The goal was to encourage players to socialise and share experiences directly within the game, rather than relying on external social media platforms. By keeping social interaction in-game, the system aims to increase player engagement and session length.
This feature was designed to appeal especially to younger audiences, such as Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who are accustomed to visual social platforms. Increased engagement through social interaction was expected to support higher player retention and contribute to long-term subscription stability for the game.
